On Your Doorstep
As we enter the second lockdown phase I know that many of you will be frustrated at the way we are ‘hemmed’ in and unable to visit the places that we enjoy.
It will pass as we know but I see this as an opportunity to explore the areas around our own vicinities to find new photographic opportunities. I was chatting on line with a few friends recently and it is a fact that we have a habit of taking our surroundings for granted. Whilst the restriction for travel is in place it still doesn’t have to stop you taking snaps.
The location will dictate the style of photography. Towns offer urban landscapes as well as street photography, with those lucky enough to live by countryside able to continue their foray into the green open spaces.
If the weather becomes too inclement then consider revisiting images you have previously taken and see whether you were right to pass them by or see if they work as black & whites or sepia tone. I have unearthed one or two over the years that I now look at and am glad I ‘revived’ them.
It is a very good time to get outside, as the season is now in full change from Autumn to Winter, offering up a variety of ways to document those changes.
In short, pick up the camera and venture out!
I have already been receiving images from friends and can see that they are enjoying themselves.
Before I go, I wanted to offer up my congratulations to a person who I met many years ago and I now count as a good friend. Not only is she a fabulous musician and writer but loves her photography too. On top of that she is one of the most heartfelt, genuine folk I have had the pleasure to get to know and I was delighted when she informed me recently that a photograph she had taken had been chosen by the Manx Government as an official stamp for the island.
Well done Hilary. Well and truly deserved! We will see you when the situation allows.
