2. THE OGWEN

Part one CWM IDWAL

Whilst I may be better known for my work in the lakes, it is Snowdonia that has always been the place that actually meant more to me.

Why?

Memories! The greatest of memories!

I originally went there with my parents and subsequently our own children because as ‘Northeners,’ it is what we did!

Now don’t get me wrong, I love the lakes and its varied, fantastic landscapes in equal measures but as you drive down the A5 from either Bethesda or Capel Curig you get ‘that’ view of Tryfan…..

Like many of the great passes we are lucky to have on ‘our island,’ they all promise and deliver. This one cuts between the Glyder and Carneddau ranges and doesn’t disappoint.

It has alway seemed to me, that the ‘whole of Snowdonia’ is concentrated right here. It isn’t of course but thats how I feel as the towering mountains of rock rise either side of the road.

If you are a walker you are spoiled for choice but as a photographer….wow!

I have a few spots that for me are ‘go toos.’ It never bothers me that I have photographed them before as I love to see places throughout the season and different light and one of those is Cwm Idwal.

There are numerous places to stop and get the camera out along the way to to the Cwm and Llyn Idwal and walk from the visitor centre will take you around twenty minutes.

However, your camera will triple that time.
