Magazines

It is always nice when you are asked by a magazine to write for them.

Recently, the editor of ‘B+W Magazine’ asked me to create a piece on my work at Dinorwig which is titled ‘THE SILENCE.’

It is now published and available in issue 312.

I hope you enjoy it.

On A Hazy Summers Day

When I look at the image above which was taken at Dinorwig, it just shows how you can make a hot summers day work for you. Whilst the haze was evident and softening Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in the background, it was important to have a strong foreground. I love this spot and have written about it many times in magazines because it reminds me of a Neolithic grave. It is a combination of the waste and natural formations coming together and I feel would make a proper, lasting tribute to the men who worked and those who sadly passed there. That slab on the top is around ten feet long and a few inches thick. It would take some lifting but somehow it is there. At the time the photo was taken it was surrounded by heather and it looks like it is tended but alas no.

Some of my favourite images from Dinorwig have been taken at that spot as it is a location that allows you to place it in the shadow of the mountain. Believe me when I say, I have stood there and witnessed many dramatic changes of weather which dictate how it portrays itself.

Drama And Light At Dinorwig

My fascination with the World Heritage Site that is Dinorwig, isn’t just about the photography but the history, the back stories to those who literally carved out a living to survive. Hopefully, the National Slate Museum of Wales in Llanberis will reopen this year after a massive refurbishment and I would advise anyone who visits the area to pay a visit there as all you will learn all you ever need to know about this wondrous place.

In other news, ‘Outdoor Photography’ magazine contacted me because an image of mine, ‘Dusk At Eskdale’ has now been chosen as ‘Viewpoint Of The Month’ and will be in the next issue.

Whilst I love the image, my abiding memory of taking it was being bitten to death by midges….

Enjoy the oncoming summer. I still love the blue sky and ability to get my legs out but prefer the cloudy, minging, mixed days or as I like to call them ‘Fairytale Days……..‘Grimm’

Fingers crossed!

Enjoy your photography
